End of the Year Activities

This week has been a fun filled week at Estes. Third and fourth grade celebrated their good faith effort with a water day which included: 2 huge inflatable water slides, 1 inflatable slip-n-slide and a dunking booth. We also had field day and what a fun day it was thanks to Mr. Magill and his crew of volunteers. We had Mr. Trix Sticks perform a high energy show for the students. We ended the week with the Estes Awards Assembly. Take a look at all the fun we had this week!
Cameron and Madison won bikes that were donated to school for perfect attendance.

To the Park We Go

First grade took a field trip to Panther Creek Park and they had a wonderful time enjoying all the park had to offer.

First Grade Bird Invasion

This past week our first grade students were treated to a raptor program. The Joe Ford Nature Center graciously brought two birds to the show. The students had a chance to see “Orville”- the red-tailed hawk. I had a chance to view the program and it was a wonderful experience for our students. I will admit I had to leave when the hawk ate a mouse.

Dance Off With the All A Students

Students who earned all A's this nine weeks had a lunch party complete with karaoke and a Just Dance Party dance off. Work Hard/Play Hard!

A Mammoth of a Time

Our fourth grade students went to Mammoth Cave this week for their class retreat. While at the cave they learned about the Cave's rich history and they learned about what makes the Cave so special. I attended the event and couldn't have been any prouder of the way our students behaved while on the trip. We want to say a big thank you to Ms. Janiak and her yarn for helping reduce the boredom on the way back to school!

Estes News Went Live Today

Today was a historic day at Estes Elementary. We had our first live broadcast of the Estes News. The Estes News is completely hosted, directed and produced by our very own third and fourth grade students! We are so proud of what our students are capable of doing here at Estes. The Estes News is just an example of how we are striving to be more than just a traditional school.

Climbing the Mountain of Success

Last week our students in third and fourth grade took the KPREP test and we couldn't be more proud of them. The children showed the grit and perseverance of champions. As many of you know our scores the last two years were not a true reflection of what Estes Elementary is all about. This year the challenge was given to both the teachers and the students to get our test scores to where it matches the learning that is happening in our school. We as a school know what are students are capable of doing, but now it is important for the state of Kentucky to recognize the learning that is happening at our school!
Estes Elementary knows what we do on a day to day basis goes beyond test scores. Estes Elementary teachers are preparing our students to be successful in life. We want our students to be problem solvers and be able to DIL (Discover, Improve and Learn) from their mistakes. We want our students to embrace failures and see them as learning experiences. We want our students to not settle for second best, but we want your children to feel like they can do anything they put their minds to.
Parents we want to say thank you for entrusting us to be the school that helps your children dream big and then go make their dreams come true.
We have two weeks of school left and we want to keep pushing your children to excellence. Please make sure they continue to come to school, so that we can help them make and fulfill their dreams.

Check This Out!

Two of our Makers Club members were learning about electricity and circuits when they discovered how to do something very cool. If you want to find out what they did click on the video below!

The Estes Makers Club

Estes Elementary now has a Makers Club. This club will meet once a week until the end of the year. The club meets in our newly renovated Project and Research Center. The motto that we live by is "DIL With It" which stands for Discover, Improve and Learn. The Makers Club will experiment with cardboard, electricity, various engineering kits and robotics. Next years Makers Club will learn about 3D printing as we will have our own 3D printer.

A Sneak Peek at Leader in Me

Ms. Ellis did her leadership project with a group of students and they worked on a mini Leader in Me workshop. The culminating activity was a report on what they learned from the workshops. I have to say that I along with various teachers and parents who attended the presentation were blown away at what the kids presented to us.
