The Future of Owensboro

Mrs. Manqueros has her class thinking about the future. Beginning with the End in Mind is one of our 7 habitats our Estes students are following. The future of Owensboro looks like it is in good hands!

Down on the Farm

Wednesday was a special day for our students at Estes. Our students had the chance to learn about farm life through a special partnership with our science museum. The Owensboro Science Museum brought Agricultural Day to Estes. Our city kids had the chance to spend a day on the farm and learn about the important job of the Kentucky Farmer. One of the big highlights of the afternoon was milking the cow! One of the more eye opening experiences was spinning the wheel of chance. Our students learned how environmental factors play a huge factor in whether farmers turn a profit or a loss.

Watch Dogs are Watching Estes

Mrs. Frizzell introduced a brand new program called WatchDOGS to our school this past week. WATCH D.O.G.S., a K-12 program, invites fathers, grandfathers, uncles, or other father figures to volunteer at least one day all day at their child’s/student’s school during the school year.
The turnout for the launch event was absolutely amazing. We packed the new Bulldog Cafeteria with fathers, grandfathers, uncles and other father figures. The cafeteria was so crowded we had to bring in extra tables for all of our future WatchDOGS. The event was a huge success and we would like to thank all the WatchDOGS for their patience and understanding that night. We can't wait for our WatchDOGS to start patrolling our hallways. A big THANK YOU to Mrs. Frizzell for spearheading this wonderful event!

The Born Learning Academy Driven by Toyota

The Born Learning Academy Driven by Toyota held its first meeting this past week.  The academy is a series of workshops designed for parents who are expecting or who have children 5 years or younger.  The workshops are designed to help families learn how to turn everyday moments into learning opportunities.

We would like to thank Dr. Brake for stopping by and talking to our academy participants and welcoming them to the Owensboro Public School's family. We are so excited to be a part of this grant and even more excited about growing a core group of parents to help lead Estes into the future. A big thank you to Mr. Johnson and Mrs. Pounds-Taylor for hosting such a wonderful event.

Our 4th graders went outside on a beautiful day to use the outdoor classroom. They applied the scientific method while conducting an experiment to compare the effects of dropping different types of Mentos into diet soda.

Working Hard For Their Money

This is Mrs. Ruth's class sharing their classroom economy presentations. These students are learning that hard work pays off!
