Flashlight Reading

Harralson's Kids

This Thursday, January 14th at 5:30pm, your child's artwork and writing will be on displayed in the PRC during our Parent Council Meeting. There will be drinks and snacks provided. Please come and check out your child's artwork!
The 100th day of school is coming up and we will be celebrating by bringing in 100 items of something on January 21st. Your child could bring in 100 of something. For example: 100 pennies, 100 cotton balls, 100 cherrios, etc. in a ziplock baggie. We will be doing some experiments with these items. They will be returned back home the same day. I'm also encouraging your child to dress up like an 100 year old person to celebrate our 100th day of school :). I already have my walker and wig ready!
In writing, we are working on the following skills: putting punctuation at the end of the sentence, capitolizing the first letter in a sentence, always capitolizing the letter "I", using finger spaces, and stretching out words. Encourage your child this week to write you a sentence about their day practicing these concepts.
SHOW AND TELL FRIDAY is this week. Your child may bring in their favorite stuffed animal or toy that they love to share with the class on January 15th.
Here is a picture of 2 friends using their motor skills to build a house.
The Taste of Division

Ms. Vincent's class started learning about division with a yummy hands-on review! In 3rd grade, students learned that division is all about breaking something down in to smaller parts. During this activity, each student was given a different number of goldfish. Students counted their total number of goldfish (their whole, or dividend) and then divided it by a variety of numbers (a divisor). To finish the lesson, students wrote an equation to represent one of the division problems they did - explaining which number was the dividend, divisor, and quotient. After a student shared their equation with the class they were allowed to eat their goldfish! Yum!
It's a State of Matter
ELA students learned about the properties of matter last week. If you ask them what matter is, they can tell you "what something is made of." In these photos students are changing the state of matter.
They are making water evaporate faster by using a hair dryer and melting ice faster by applying heat. They also turned a liquid to a solid when we made homemade ice cream :) They had such a fun week of experimenting with matter!!
