Mrs. Johnson's First Grade Class has been working on the strategy of
visualizing. Visualizing is like a "movie in their head." Of
course, there is nothing like a concrete hands-on activity to get
students engaged. The students were instructed to reach into the bag
without looking, feel the object inside, and create a "mental image" of
the object. Then they would draw their visualization. Students then
were allowed to share their images and compare their drawings to the
actual objects. This would lead students into many discussions about
their schema and how it helps everyone visualize. Then the question
was asked of them -How does this strategy help us become better readers?
