Speed of Light

First grade students have started a unit on light.  They have conducted investigations to determine the effect of placing objects made with different materials in the path of a beam of light.
 They also explored how light travels from place to place through experiences with light sources.  They explored shining a light on a  mirror and the beam bounced behind them, bounced the light from mirror to mirror  and students charted other light observations.  Also, have you ever tried mirror writing? It's not as easy as it looks.
Furthermore, its not a light unit without the traditional hand  shadow making.  This was a student favorite.
Later on  students  will combine the Sound and Light Units by discovering how to use  light and sound to communicate.
