EGGciting Times!

Mrs. Crabtree's class took a scientific approach to coloring Easter eggs! They coated eggs with baking soda and food coloring and then dropped vinegar on them to create a chemical reaction. Take a look at their creations.

Help Our Bulldogs Reach the Top of the Mountain

It’s annual testing time again and we want every one of our students to do his/her very best.

Here are a few suggestions of things you, as a parent, can do to help your child succeed during

testing.

Make sure your child gets a good night’s rest – at least 8 hours – before each test day.

Make sure your child eats a healthy breakfast the morning of each test either at home

or at school.

Ensure that your child is on time to school.

Schedule student appointments (doctors/dentist, etc.) that don’t conflict with the

testing periods.

Be positive. Encourage your child to take the test seriously and do his or her best.

Give words of encouragement as your child leaves for school each day.

After school, ask your child about his/her day of testing.
Try to keep the child’s stress level at home to a minimum.

Encourage your child to listen carefully to instructions and to ask questions if he/she

does not understand.

Creativity Gets Creative in Second Grade.

Take a look at what second grade is doing in Creativity class. Can you guess what they are working on? They used inches to feet, feet to yards. They worked on figuring perimeter and area of their objects. They then turned it into fractions. Teamwork and communication were part of this exercise.

Owl Pellets-Goss but Interesting!

Fourth graders in Ms. Huskisson's and Mrs. Lancaster's room got down and dirty with some owl pellets. They boys and girls had a great time dissecting the pellets and finding out what owls like to eat. I have to say I was a little squeamish, but the kids handled it like professional scientists.

What Kind of Eggs are Those?

Mrs. McCarty's class did a project with yarn and balloons to create Easter Eggs. Take a look at the process.

Spring Break in Owensboro

Spring Break is here and now what do we do? Owensboro offers some adventures that you and your family can take. Do you like nature? Owensboro offers some really nice parks with trails such as Yellow Creek Park, Panther Creek Park and Ben Hawes Park. Do you like learning? Owensboro has you covered with the Science Museum and the Fine Arts Museum. I know the Science Museum is offering activities each day of the break. Our public library is second to none and offers various types of literature for your children to read. Do you just need a break? Take the kids down to Smothers Park and let them run out some energy. If you can think of any other things to do, let me know and I will spread the word! Have a great break!

Assembly Pics

Estes Elementary loves to recognize all the hard work our students put forth. Our latest assembly recognized students for perfect attendance, our TAS students, and students who earned all A's and A/B honor roll. Great things are happening at Estes!

A Math Magician at Estes?

Subtraction Magic!

Did you see him? The Math Magician has been in the hallways of Estes! As a surprise,
he left his cape, hat, magic wand and some subtraction math problems for Mrs. Alley's kindergarten
class. A student in Mrs. Alley's class, Christian Williams, helps the class solve these subtraction
problems by using the Math Magician's magic wand to "take away" groups of students.
Learning can be so magical!

With a great last name like his you knew he would love Math!
