The Testing Avengers are Coming

Students of Estes, I come to you with a special message. Something big is coming for KPREP and you might see some new and unusual things popping up around Estes. The title and the pic above give you a hint on what our theme for KPREP is this year. Please make sure to come to school every day to prepare yourself for our big testing event.

Grit, Animals and Ice Cream

As you can see from these pictures, the Estes Grit winners had an exciting day. The day started with a engaging and exciting adventure at Mesker's Zoo. The students were able to explore the whole zoo and see many of the animals at the zoo. The students then had a picnic lunch at the Mesker's Zoo pavilion. After lunch the the students boarded the bus and enjoyed some delicious ice-cream from Dairy Queen! At Estes, we believe in rewarding hard working students!

A Splendid Spring Fling

We hope you had the chance to come out to the Estes Spring Fling. If you missed the Spring Fling, you missed a great time. There were many smiles on the faces of both the adults and the children. We would like to thank our second grade team for putting on a great event. The second grade teachers would like to thank everyone who helped out with the event.
Did you know that our very own Mrs. Kirby donated the games for the night. She has a very talented husband who built all the games!

A Rocky Good Time

Here are some great pics of the 4th grade trip to Mammoth Cave.
The kids learned about the layers of rock in the cave and the sandstone and limestone rock that makes up this cave. They leaned about this landform and how it actually used to be underwater!
The kids also learned how weathering and erosion created this "mammoth" size cave! The cave wasn't named because mammoths used to live in these caves, it was named for it's enormous size! The kids loved exploring and becoming geologists for a day!

Lucky and Appreciative

Did you know that last week was administrative assistant week? The week used to be called school secretary week. At Estes, we are extremely lucky to have Mrs. Kirby, Mrs. Misty, Ms. Jennie and Mrs. Oller. These ladies do so many things that go unnoticed each day, but without them our school would be a total mess and chaotic! I would like to take this time and say THANK YOU to our wonderful administrative secretaries.
Many of our students made cards for their favorite administrative secretary.

Minds, Peeps and Plants are Growing in First Grade

First graders put on their science hats and observed how different liquids effected their favorite  in season holiday snack the PEEP.
First grade was also busy  studying plants by planting  seeds and taking care of plants.  The students documented the growth of their plants in their plant diaries.

It's the MAP, It's the MAP

MAP testing is in full swing and we are excited to see all the growth your child has made during the school year. Please make sure your child is at school everyday and on time. These tests help our teachers plan instruction for each and everyone of our students.

JA in a Day

Our K-2 students were treated to a great day of learning by a Junior Achievement parters. Many community partners came out to Estes to volunteer their time and teach our students about community and business.

Future Medical Students?

Mr. Sorce took the Estes 4th grade leaders on a tour of the new hospital. They enjoyed an all access tour to all parts of the hospital. One of the highlights of the tour was seeing the medical helicopter that is flown to emergencies around Daviess County.

Now That Is My Kind Of Moon

Mrs. Williams classes learned about the different phases of moon using Oreos.
I thought the moon was supposed to be made out of cheese not cookies.

Welcome Back

We hope everyone had a chance to Sharpen the Saw over spring break. It is hard to believe that in six weeks the end of the school year will be upon us.
Please continue to get your children to school and on time. We have been in last place in our district attendance race for the last 4 months. I would like to challenge our students to come to school everyday and go from last place to first place! Come on Bulldogs-WE CAN DO THIS!
Your children will also be taking several important assessments in the coming weeks. All students will be taking the MAP test. If you are new to our school, the MAP test measures the performance of your child with every other student in the nation that takes the test. Our third and fourth grade students will not only take the MAP test, but they will also be taking the KPREP test. The KPREP test is the biggest test your child will take at Estes. Last year we scored the best we have ever scored for the KPREP test. Our third graders last year helped us go from the bottom of the mountain to a fourth way up the mountain. We are counting on them along with our current third graders to help us reach the top of the mountain.
I will give you testing tips in the upcoming blog posts. Two things that you can do right now to help your child is to make sure they are doing their homework and getting enough sleep every night.
I want to say thank you to all of our parents out in Bulldog Nation that are helping your children become responsible and respectful students. We are seeing a lot of our students showing GRIT and a Growth mindset at school. If we continue to work together, your children are going to make our community, city, state and nation a better place.
Have an AMAZING WEEK!

Are We at Holiday World?

Ms. Huskisson's third graders have been working on identifying simple machines and force by making roller coasters. They tested whether they could make the roller coaster (ball) go fast, slow, over one and two hills, and through a loop. Then they got to see what other cool stuff their roller coasters could do.
I believe we have some future engineers in this class.
